Big, hefty traffic challans are making news every day since the implementation of the Motor Vehicle (Amended) Act 2019. Armed with more power and bigger fine, the traffic police are coming down heavily on those who are violating the rules.
While the heavy fines are necessary to force people to follow these rules, the big penalties have also caused a sense of fear and dismay among the common people. They are afraid for being charged a heavy amount for even a small mistake.
However, the main foucs of the Motor Vehicle (Amended) Act 2019 is not to penalise but make people more aware. That is why the new rules also give second chances to people to correct their mistakes and avoid hefty fines. Many people are not aware of the complete rules and thus fail to make full use of them.
As per reports, many of these fines can be cancelled out with a payment of merely 100 rupees.
According to the new rules, for fines related to not having insurance papers, drivers license, registration certificate or other necessary documents, you get 15 days to present all your documents to the respective planning branch and get your challan cancelled for a sum of 100 rupees.
This 15-day rule is applicable only if you have all the necessary papers but have left them at home or some other place. Once you have presented and proved all your official papers to the authorities- you can get your fine back, challan cancelled and will have to pay just 100 rupees per document as a fee for the whole purpose.
However, you cannot then go get all the required documents made and get forgiven of the penalty once after the challan has been issued.
