News Nation's big expose on how rice is being adulterated with plastic crystals all across the country reaped huge dividends as the matter caught the attention of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) authorities.
Afte taking cognisance of News Nation's exclusive coverage on the matter, FDA official carried out detailed investigations in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Haldwani to examine as to how and to what extent the rice being dubbed as 'Plastic Rice' is adulterated.
News Nation's exclusive reports revealed that many housewives complained that the rice being sold in Mumbai and Bengaluru takes a long time to cook than usual. When they make balls out of the cooked rice, it bounces rather than crumbling. News Nation's investigation also revealed that sugar being sold in Haasan was adulterated with plastic crystals.
In one of the many incidents that testify the claim about adulteration, Gargi Bhattacharya, a resident of Mumbai's Lokhandwala bought some rice from a general store on Sunday.
While cooking the rice she suspected that the rice could be adultered as it didn't taste good and while making balls out of them, they bounced in an awkward fashion.
Gargi lodged a complaint with the Food Drug Administration (FDA) to report the matter post which the FDA team reached Gargi's residence at Lokhandwala to record her statement and collect a sample of the rice which seemed adultered. FDA stated that there would be a thorough investigation to determine whether the rice was adultered or not. However, the FDA remained close guarded in their response to the incident in front of the camera and harped on the fact that an investigation would be underway to the matter.
