NIA puts Pakistani diplomat on 'wanted' list, to seek Interpol’s red corner notice

For the first time, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has put Pakistani diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui on its ‘wanted’ list for plotting 26/11-type attacks.

Seeking more information about him, the agency has also released a photo of Siddiqui, who was posted as visa counsellor in the Pakistani High Commission in Colombo.

Siddiqui, along with two other Pakistani officers are accused of conspiring to launch 26/11-type attacks on US and Israeli consulates besides Army and Navy commands in south India in 2014.

The premier investigating agency said that one more Pakistani official posted in the high commission in Colombo was also involved in the plotting.

The NIA is also mulling to send a request to Interpol seeking red corner notices (RCNs) against the Pakistani officers.

The development came months after the NIA filed a chargesheet against the diplomat in February 2018. The three other Pakistani officers, who have been put on the list, could not be identified as they used codenames.

While serving in Colombo from 2009 to 2016, the Pakistani officers, including Siddiqui, planned 26/11-type attacks on several key installations in Chennai and other places in south India.

However, they could not succeed in their evil designs as alert Indian agencies arrested their agents. This was the first time India has put any Pakistani diplomat on its ‘wanted’ list and sought Interpol’s RCN against him.
