After Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu wrote a letter to Home Minister Rajnath Singh requesting an NIA probe into recent rail accidents, Home Ministry transferred investigations into Kuneru of Andhra Pradesh and Kanpur rail accidents to National Investigation Agency

Suspecting the possibility of sabotage in the recent spate of train derailments, Prabhu wrote to Singh seeking a detailed probe by the investigation agency.

In the letter, he made a mention of Hirakhand Express derailment near Kuneru station in Andhra Pradesh, two goods trains that went off the track earlier this month on the Koraput-Kirandul section, ‘cooker bomb’ at Ghorasahan station, detection of deep cuts on tracks near Kanpur on January 1 and the obstruction on tracks on a rail bridge between Barauni-Samastipur stations on Monday.

The minister has also urged the people to give information about any unusual activity by anti-national elements near stations and directed railway security personnel to be careful.

NIA’s preliminary probe team has ruled out terror angle in the Kanpur train derailment that claimed over 150 lives.
