The metro rail connectivity is going to expand in nine cities including Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Kochi, Bengaluru and Chennai. The nine cities are going to get additional 313 km on metro rail connectivity by March 2019.
As per the present data, the mass transit system is operational only on 370 kilometers in eight cities.
The metro services started first in Kolkata in 1984.
While most of the metro projects were approved under UPA regime, three of the projects in Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow were approved during Narendra Modi government.
Metro constructions are in full swing during the current NDA government. A total of 537 kms of metro sections are under under construction.
