Nirbhaya Case LIVE Updates: Four men convicted of the rape and murder of a Delhi woman were hanged till death on Friday. Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) were executed at 5.30 am for the savage assault on the 23-year-old physiotherapy intern who came to be known the world over as Nirbhaya, the fearless one. The executions were carried out after the men exhausted every possible legal avenue to escape the gallows.
In last-gasp attempts, one of the convicts knocked on the doors of the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court just hours before the hanging. In an unprecedented late-night hearing that began at 2.30 AM and lasted an hour, a Supreme Court bench dismissed his last plea. Finally, the four convicts were hanged at 5.30 am, Director General of Tihar Jail Sandeep Goel said.

The bodies of four Nirbhaya case convicts, hanged at Tihar Jail on Friday morning, were taken to DDU Hospital for post-mortem, an official said. According to the official, a panel of doctors will perform post-mortem examination on the bodies at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital later in the day.

A doctor has declared all the four convicts in the Nirbhaya case dead after they were hanged at Tihar Jail, an official said. According to the official, their bodies remained suspended in the air for nearly half-an-hour.

All four convicts are now being read their death warrants.
According to reports from inside Tihar jail, all four convicts have been brought out and their faces have been covered ahead of the hanging.
Security was beefed up outside the Tihar Jail in view of the hanging of four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case on Friday. An official said that the deployment of security personnel has been increased outside Tihar Jail Number 3. Hundreds of people gathered outside the jail, with some of them carrying posters thanking the judiciary.
Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31), held guilty for gangraping a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012 so savagely that she died of her injuries a fortnight later, will be executed in Tihar Jail at 5.30 am on Friday.
