Giving her first reaction after four convicts in the sensational 2012 gang-rape and murder case were issued death warrant on Tuesday, Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, said this decision will strengthen the trust of people in the judicial system.
"My daughter has got justice. The execution of the four convicts will empower the women of the country. This decision will strengthen the trust of people in the judicial system," Asha Devi said.
Four convicts in the sensational 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case will be hanged on January 22 at 7 am in Tihar jail, a Delhi court said on Tuesday. The order was pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar Arora who issued death warrants gainst them. The four death row convicts are Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta.
Badrinath Singh, the of Nirbhaya, said: "I am happy with the court's decision. The convicts will be hanged at 7 am on January 22. This decision will instill fear in people who commit such crimes."
A curative petition is the last legal recourse available to a convict and it is generally considered in-chamber. The paramedic student was raped on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012, inside a running bus in south Delhi by six persons and severely assaulted before being thrown out on the road.
She died on December 29, 2012, at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, where she was airlifted from Delhi for treatment.
