Noida land allotment case: SC upholds Neera Yadav’s conviction, reduces quantum of sentence

The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday upheld the Allahabad High Court order convicting ex-UP Chief Secretary Neera Yadav and former IAS officer Rajiv Kumar in Noida land allotment scam.

A bench of two judges- Justices Kurian Joseph and R Banumathi, however, giving some respite to Neera and Rajiv reduced the jail term of three years awarded by the HC to two years.

The decision of SC came following Neera Yadav’s plea in the apex court challenging Allahabad high court’s decision in the corruption case.

In 2012, a CBI court has convicted Yadav and Rajiv in Noida land allotment scam that took place between the years 1993-95.

The CBI probe against Yadav and Kumar was ordered by the Supreme Court on a petition filed by Noida Entrepreneurs Association in 1997.

A 1971 batch IAS officer Neera Yadav was the CEO of Noida authority during the scam while Rajiv was her deputy.

She was also made the first woman Chief secy of Uttar Pradesh in 2005 during the Samajwadi government. Neera took VRS in 2008.
