Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who was facing people’s backlash for flying to Italy days before election results in three North East states, broke his silence and said he accepted the people’s mandate asserting that he was committed to winning back their trust.
“The Congress party respects the mandate of the people of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya. We are committed to strengthening our party across the North East and to winning back the trust of the people. My sincere thanks to each and every Congress worker who toiled for the party,” Rahul Tweeted.
On March 1, Rahul Gandhi had gone to meet his 93-year-old Nani in Italy. The visit came only two days before the crucial assembly poll results in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

Congress lost elections in Meghalaya and failed to open an account in Tripura and Nagaland.
Following the debacle in northeast assembly polls, BJP chief Amit Shah took a dig at the Grand Old Party’s president Rahul Gandhi for not being in the country.
While addressing a press conference on BJP’s performance in the three states, Shah said, “I received a message on WhatsApp that there are elections in Italy.”
In Rahul Gandhi’s absence, senior Congress leaders were being reluctant to talk about the results and party’s poor performance.
