Northern India, Mumbai reel under cold wave, sub-zero temperatures recorded in Haryana

With temperatures dipping at most places as icy winds swept the plains following heavy snowfall in the hill states over the past five days, cold wave conditions intensified over parts of India on Thursday.

Patna residents witness season’s lowest minimum temperature

Patna, the state capital, on Thursday, witnessed season’s lowest minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, mainly due to westerly wind and snowfall in northern states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnea, other major important cities of the state, also witnessed a decline in minimum temperature by 4 degrees Celsius in comparison to Wednesday’s minimum temperature.

Coldest day in Delhi as mercury drops to 4 degrees C

Delhi witnessed the coldest day of the season with the mercury plummeting to 2 degrees Celsius in parts of the national capital. The Safdarjung observatory, reading of which is considered the official one for the city, recorded a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius, a MeT official said.

Rajasthan reels under cold grip; Mount Abu coldest at minus 2.4 degrees C

Cold wave swept parts of Rajasthan where mercury continued to remain below freezing point at three places with Churu recording the lowest temperature of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius.

Mount Abu recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2 degrees Celsius while Sriganganagar, Bhilwara, Sikar, Alwar and Vanasthali registered night temperatures of minus 1.1, 0.0, 1, 1.2 and 2.1 degrees Celsius respectively, according to Met department.

Haryana and Punjab reels under intense cold, Narnaul records sub-zero

The minimum temperature in many places in Punjab and Haryana dipped below the freezing point. Narnaul in Haryana was shivering at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius while Amritsar and Adampur in Punjab experience bone-chilling cold conditions at 0.8 degrees Celsius and minus 0.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

Mumbai records the lowest temperature in last three years

Mumbai witnessed the lowest temperature in last three years after the mercury dropped to 12.5-degree celsius. “This is the lowest temperature in Mumbai in last three years.

There is cold breeze blowing from north-west as well as from the north that has caused the mercury to plunge to this level,” said an officer from Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai.
