Centre saved the Indian economy that was heading towards disaster five-six years ago, claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. He further stated that his government has not just stabilised the economy but also made efforts to bring discipline to it.
while addressing the annual general meeting of industry body, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), PM Modi said, "We all know that 5 years ago, our economy was heading towards disaster. Our Government has not only stabilised it, but also made efforts to bring discipline to it. We have paid attention to fulfilling the decades old demands of the industry."
The Prime Minister further said, "In the last 5 years, the country has strengthened itself in a major way and thus, we can strive and achieve targets such as the $5 trillion economy target." "Every group that can enable the economy is keeping the target of $5 trillion economy at the center of its plans and talks are happening in several sectors. These talks are positive," PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister also noted that the credit for every achieved target goes to the people, and not to the government. He further asserted that the central government is moving towards faceless assessment to bring transparency, efficiency and accountability in tax system. "Working to decriminalise offences under companies act, govt working to remove inverted duty structure," PM Modi added.
The PM further stated that his government tried to set goals and holistic targets and meet demands of the industry. “Centre is trying to modernise and speed up the economy. Now companies are being registered in few hours," he said.
"Today the country has such a government that listens to farmers, labourers, industry and the traders...and is trying to act on their advice. We brought GST and we listened to traders to improve it," he said.
On the occasion, he also referred India's ease of doing business ranking saying that the government had to work tirelessly and changed rules and regulations on the ground.
Also, PM Modi gave his regards to everyone associated with the ASSOCHAM event, especially to the people related to the MSME sector. He wished everyone luck for 2020 and hoped all of them realize all their targets.
