New Delhi:

A noted scribe was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Tripura’s RK Nagar on Tuesday evening. The Tripura Police have identified the deceased as Sudip Datta Bhowmik.

According to police records, two journalists have been killed and one critically injured in the last three months.

The killing row started with murder of Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore. Lankesh was shot dead in front of her residence in Bengaluru's Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Sept 6th evening. Unknown assailants pumped in at least five bullets into her body. Her murderers are still absconding.

A day after Lankesh’s murder, bike-borne criminals open fired at a scribe, Pankaj Mishra, in Bihar’s Arwal district. He had suffered critical injuries in the firing. The Bihar police had arrested two persons in connection to the incident.

In another incident, a TV journalist Santanu Bhowmick covering agitation and road blockade by the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) was abducted and killed in Tripura.
