Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, whose brother and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi along wither leaders of several opposition parties were sent back to Delhi from Srinagar airport, on Sunday hit out at the administration and questioned ‘how long is this going to continue?’ She also asserted that her party will not stop raising its voice against alleged ‘shutting down’ of democratic rights in Kashmir.
“How long is this going to continue? This is one out of millions of people who are being silenced and crushed in the name of ‘Nationalism’,” she wrote on Twitter while tagging a video in which a woman is seen telling former Congress chief, onboard the flight to Delhi from Srinagar, problems being faced by her family and loved ones.
“For those who accuse the opposition of ‘politicising’ this issue: There is nothing more ‘political’ and ‘anti-national’ than the shutting down of all democratic rights that is taking place in Kashmir,” Priyanka Gandhi said.
“It is the duty of every one of us to raise our voices against it, we will not stop doing so,” she added.
Earlier on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said it was clear that the situation in the Valley was not normal.
“Some days ago, I was invited by Governor to visit Jammu and Kashmir. I accepted the invitation. We wanted to get a sense of what people are going through, but we weren't allowed beyond the airport. Press people with us were mishandled, beaten. It's clear that situation in Jammu and Kashmir isn't normal,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Earlier this month, the Modi-led government had revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two Union territories - Jammu and Kashmir with legislature and Ladakh without legislature.
