The Delhi University and JNU campuses are ready to witness more marches and counter-marches on Tuesday after ABVP held a Tiranga march on Monday.
Left-affiliated AISA, Congress -backed NSUI and JNU teachers also are mulling to register their protest against the Ramjas College violence. Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) is also organising a symbolic one-day hunger strike at Arts faculty followed by a 'Mashaal' rally on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, ABVP, which objected to a seminar at Ramjas College last week where JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid were invited, took out a 'Tiranga march' from the college to Delhi University's Arts Faculty.
Shouting slogans of 'Vande Mataram' and dubbing it a 'march for the nation', the ABVP members carried the national flag as they marched inside the Ramjas College campus. With hashtags like 'March4nation', 'IstandwithRamjas' and 'Istandwithnationalism', the student outfit urged more students to join via social media for the protest against Left-leaning students' groups who are "supporting those involved in anti-national activities".
On the other hand, Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu asserted freedom of expression does not mean liberty to advocate disintegration of the country. Naidu accused Congress and the Left of trying to give a "different colour" to happenings on some campuses, "I am surprised about the efforts made by the Congress and the Left to give a different colour to the issues that are happening in a few universities saying it is an assault on freedom of expression," Naidu told reporters.
He claimed certain "misguided" sections were trying to mislead the young population and create social tensions, and hurt the sentiments of the people of India.
Another union minister Jitendra Singh said the country would not allow premiumon anti-India activism and there is a need for drawing a bottom line to check such activities.
"Freedom of debate doesn't allow debating to instigate anti-India activism and there is a need to draw a bottom line on it," said the Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office. (with PTI Inputs)
