Odisha is in news again for all wrong reasons. In yet another heart-wrenching incident, a man from Angul district of Odisha walked for a kilometre from a hospital with his five-year-old daughter's body.

Gati Dhibar did not find a transport to take his daughter's body home to his village to perform her last rites, hence he had to walk. The incident was filmed on mobile phones and has gone viral.

The incident has brought back the memories of Dana Majhi, a tribal man who was forced to walk for 10 kilometres with his wife's dead body in Kalahandi, due to unavailability of ambulance in the hospital and transport.

Dhibar left the community health centre with his daughter Sumi on his shoulders after she was declared dead by the doctors. The authorities took no further responsibility.

Free hearse service is active in Odisha under the Mahaprayan scheme for the underprivileged. But, the hearse vans are usually available at district hospitals and not at primary health centres.
