In yet another heart-wrenching incident in Odisha, a tribal man was forced to take her mother’s body in a trolley-rickshaw from hospital to his village Ankula, 4 km away, because of lack of transport facilities. This incident comes barely a month after a tribal man named Dana Majhi was seen walking 12 kilometres with his wife’s body on his shoulders from Kalahandi hospital to his home.Â
“No transport facility was available. Private services asked Rs 12000 so had no option but take body in trolley-rickshaw to village,†a kin of the woman told ANI.
65-year-old Pana Tirika was admitted to Jajpur District Hospital after she complained of stomach pain. She was then referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition turned critical. But she died soon after being admitted.

With similar incidents coming to light over the past few months, the state government had launched the free hearse van service called Mahaprayana. However, there was reportedly no vehicle available Jajpur District Hospital. Also, there was no ambulance available.
Left with no option, the woman’s son Guna Tirika had to carry the body on a trolley rickshaw by cycling it all the way to his village.
