A minor rape survivor, unhappy over alleged police inaction against her violators, killed self in Odisha’s Khurda district on Wednesday.

The suicide is second similar incident in the state within the last 72 hours.

“The police did not take any action to arrest the boy who raped my daughter. Police is solely responsible for my death’s daughter,” said the girl’s mother.

The victim’s relatives claimed that the girl was unable to bear mental torture due to the incident.

Police said, “The deceased consumed pesticide on Wednesday evening. She was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention but died during treatment.”

According to police records, the class 10 student was raped by her neighbour on December 31. The victim had lodged a complaint against her neighbour the very next day.

Subas Panda, Balugaon sub divisional police officer, told the media that the cops were on course to arrest the accused.

A minor girl, who said she was gang raped by four CoBRA jawans, killed herself in Koraput district on Monday after the state CID dismissed the rape allegations as false.

The suicide had triggered outrage in the state, with opposition parties holding a bandh and BJD MP Tathagat Satpathy calling out the apathy of the state government.

A 14-year-old tribal girl who was allegedly gang raped by ‘men in uniform’  committed suicide at her residence early this week.

The victim had claimed that she was raped by persons wearing uniform similar to BSF.

However, the CID quoting the girl’s medical examination had claimed that the girl was not gang raped. The victim rather had levelled allegations to hide her own affair with a 16-year-old boy.

According to National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) figures, Odisha ranks third in the country after Delhi and Goa in the number of crimes reported against women.
