The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday hours after the Delhi High Court seat aside the Election Commission’s order disqualifying 20 of its MLAs in an office of profit case demanded an apology from the poll conducting body or resignation of the election commissioners.
The Delhi High Court on Friday had set aside the Election Commission’s order disqualifying 20 AAP MLAs in an office of profit case and directed the poll conducting the body to hear the matter afresh.
“Elected representatives of Delhi were illegally disqualified. Truth has won,” said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
While, AAP Delhi unit spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that former election commissioner disqualified AAP MLAs only to ‘please’ the Centre.
“If the post of constitutional authority is occupied by pygmies then democracy won't be safe. The EC's decision was a serious attempt to dislodge the duly elected AAP government," AAP senior leader Ashutosh said.
decision to disqualify the MLAs exposes how low the constitutional authority can stoop,” he added.
AAP’s 20 MLAs were disqualified for allegedly holding office of profit by President Ram Nath Kovind on the recommendation of the Election Commission.
The party then had said that the decision by the Election Commission was against the principles of natural justice and that they were not given a fair chance to present the case.
