Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti Detained Under Public Safety Act: Home Minister Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been detained under Public Safety Act (PSA). The act allows detention for up to two years without a trial. Tensions are high in Kashmir after New Delhi on August 5 announced abrogation of provisions of Article 370 and decided to bifurcate the state into Union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh - hours after Kashmir was placed under a total clampdown. In a massive setback, Pakistan is on the verge of strong action by the international terror financing watchdog FATF and the country may be put in the 'Dark Grey' list, the last warning to improve. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday hit out at the Congress and at the decision to give Indian-American economist Abhijit Banerjee Nobel Prize for Economics. Banerjee, 58, was one of the economists Congress had consulted before formulating Nyay (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) before the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Syria: Prepared To 'Swiftly Destroy' Turkey Economy, Says Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump on Monday announced he will authorise sanctions against Turkish officials, raise steel tariffs and end negotiations on a US dollar 100 billion trade deal. Moving closer to completing their assault’s initial phase, Turkish forces and their proxies pushed deep into Syria last week. The Kurdish administration in northern Syria said that Turkish bombardment near a camp for the displaced led to nearly 800 relatives of Islamic State group (IS) members fleeing.
