On Vajpayee's death, Pakistan Army violates ceasefire signed during his tenure

While Indians were mourning the death of its tallest leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pakistan Army on Thursday showed its cowardly act by violating ceasefire in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting Indian Army to retaliate. Pakistani troops resorted to moderate firing on the forward posts of Army along the Line of Control (LoC), according to defence sources.

The intermittent firing continued till Friday morning and Indian troops guarding the borders retaliated in a befitting manner.

Commander of the Army’s Northern Command Lt Gen. Ranbir Singh visited the forward areas along the LoC, met the field commander and reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of the Indian troops.

The Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire in the Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district last night, officials said.

The violation of the ceasefire came hours after Pakistan PM-designate Imran Khan's statement that the best way to honour Atal Bihari Vajpayee was by establishing peace between the countries. Read full story here
