Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to sound the poll bugle for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the historic Ramlila Maidan as he addresses the concluding session of BJP’s national convention in the national capital on Saturday. With its two-day national convention, inaugurated by its president Amit Shah, the ruling BJP has set the tone for the impending general elections.
Earlier on the inaugural day on Friday, BJP chief Amit Shah sought another term for his party and hailed the Narendra Modi government as transparent, corruption-free, decisive and sensitive towards people. Expressing confidence of another astonishing victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Shah said that at present there is no another leader in the world who can match the popularity of Modi.
“For the last 70 years, the nation wanted a government for that security will be the priority and the country got its desired government when Narendra Modi came in power in 2014,” Shah said.

Shah had said that the 2019 general elections will be the battle of ideologies. “On the one hand, there is the BJP under Modi's leadership that believes in the cultural nationalism, Antyodaya and the welfare of poor, while on the other side there is a selfish and power-hungry coalition with any leadership, policies, and principles.”

The BJP president launched a cutting attack against the Opposition Congress and accused the party of having a history full of corruption and scams. Shah also downplayed Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of graft against the Modi government.
“Out on bail in a corruption case, Rahul Gandhi is leveling baseless allegations of graft against the Modi government; people are wiser than him,” the BJP leader said.
Rahul Gandhi has been alleging Modi of corruption and favouritism in the Rafale deal. Gandhi claimed that Modi personally changed the entire Rafale deal with France to benefit his “businessman friend” Anil Ambani, whose inexperienced Reliance got the Indian offshore contract for the deal of 36 fighter aircraft.
