A man was arrested for allegedly placing a carry bag containing meat on a chariot during the Ratha Jatra festival last month near Remuna in the Balasore district, police said today.
"The accused is from Somnathpur village near Balasore and a number of criminal cases are pending against him including rape," Superintendent of Police Niti Sekhar said.
In the early morning of July 14, a priest had found a plastic carry bag containing meat in the corner of the chariot.
The incident had evoked large scale resentment among the local people who staged a road blockade.
