Two more terrorists have been gunned down by security forces in an ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Tuesday morning. The gunbattle broke out in the early morning of September 28 in the Trumkhal area, in the upper reaches of Ganderbal, 18.3 kilometres from capital city Srinagar. With this, the total number of terrorists neutralised in the operation climbed up to three. Forces had eliminated another terrorist on the first day of the days-long encounter. Weapon and warlike stores are also recovered from the scene. The gunfight was underway when the last reports came in.

"Jammu and Kashmir: One more terrorist has been neutralised in Ganderbal. Weapon and warlike stores recovered. Operation in progress," the ANI reported. Hours after, the news agency again tweeted, reporting about gunnning down of the third terrorist in the region.

In a separate development on September 28, top Hizbul Mujahideen 'commander', Osama, and his two associates, Zahid and Farooq, were killed in Ramban as they were trying to escape from Kishtwar due to a crackdown launched by police and CAPF in the district

According to officials, Osama was the brain behind several sensational incidents, including the killings of senior BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar on November 1, 2018, and RSS functionary Chanderkant Sharma and his personal security officer on April 9.

Seven personnel, including Special Police Officer Imtiyaz Hussain and Sub-Inspector Amardeep Thakur were injured in the encounter. The condition of SPO Hussain in critical.
