OROP row: Those who commit suicide should not be called martyrs, says Haryana minister Anil Vij

An image shows the ID card of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal who allegedly committed suicide over the implementation of the OROP scheme.

Haryana cabinet minister Anil Vij lashed out at opposition parties for politicising the suicide of an ex-armymen over implementation of the One rank one pension scheme.

Vij said that the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are creating a furore over the matter to fulfil their political goals. Vij also said that Grewal should not be called a martyr.

"Those who commit suicide should not be called martyrs," Vij said.

The minister came down heavily on Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal who had declared an Rs one crore compensation for Grewal's family saying why didn't the AAP leader do the same for Uri martyrs.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar too echoed Vij's comments saying a true soldier cannot end his life and Grewal's suicide should be probed.

However, Khattar said that the government would provide every possible help to the family of the slain soldier.
