Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Thursday a compensation of Rs one crore for the family of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal who had allegedly committed suicide over the issue of 'One Rank, One Pension' (OROP).

Kejriwal made the announcement at Grewal's village Bamla in Haryana where he attended the army veteran's cremation.

Amid high drama, Kejriwal was detained by the Delhi Police on Wednesday when he ried to meet Grewal's family.

"I want the people to take his fight forward. We will fight till our last breath and snatch OROP from the Centre. Our soldiers deserve what is their due," Kejriwal told reporters.

On allegations that AAP was politicising the issue, Kejriwal said, "Yes, we are doing politics. We are doing politics to grant our soldiers their rights while Modiji is doing politics to take those rights away."

Under the AAP government's compensation policy, the families of martyrs who are residents of Delhi are given Rs one crore. Kejriwal has been repeatedly urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement the same across the country.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and other political leaders also attended Grewal's funeral.
