The Delhi Police detained on Wednesday the family members of the ex-serviceman who committed suicide at the RML Hospital over the OROP issue.

The family members were asking the police not to conduct post-mortem of Ram Kishan Grewal's body.

Congress leader Anand Sharma accused the Delhi Police of highhandedness saying that the police personnel dragged and thrashed Grewal's relatives at the hospital.

Live updates on OROP suicide issue: Rahul Gandhi released after being detained in Delhi

Earlier, several politicians including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Randeep Surjewala, Kiran Choudhary and Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia were detained from the RML Hospital where they had gone to meet the family of the deceased.

Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to enter the premises of the Centre-run hospital. His repeated attempts were stonewalled by the heavy posse of security personnel, drawing angry reaction from the leader who lashed out at the Modi government. Speaking to reporters, Rahul wondered whether democracy works in this fashion.

Senior police official MK Meena said obstruction of health services will not be allowed.

"We will not allow any kind of politics inside hospitals in Delhi. Democracy does not mean obstruction of health services. Rahul Gandhi has been detained at the Mandir Marg police station," he said.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal too condemned Sisodia's detention.

“Manish Sisodia detained? He had gone to meet family of deceased Ram Kishan ji. He is elected Dy CM. Whats wrong wid u Modiji? So insecure?” wrote Kejriwal on Twitter.

Sisodia had managed to enter the hospital premises and meet the family members of the deceased, before being detained by police.

Eyewitnesses said Sisodia could enter the premises as he came in a civilian car, which went undetected by the security. All the leaders were later released by the police.

Ram Kishan Grewal, a 70-year-old ex-serviceman from Haryana's Bhiwani district, committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance on Tuesday over the issue of delay in One Rank One Pension scheme (OROP) in Delhi.
