In yet another attack on the ruling government, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi during a public meeting of his party alleged that Modi government is trying to convert India into ‘Hindu rashtra’ with its attempt to impose a Uniform Civil Code.

The statement came from Hyderabad MP while addressing a public meeting organized by All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to oppose UCC.

Owaisi said that by interfering in the Muslim Personal Law, the government was trying to show that Muslims were second class citizens. Stating pluralism and diversity as the strength of the country he said any attempt to destroy secularism would weaken it.

The meeting took place on Wednesday and was attended by leaders of all sects of Muslims and various schools of Islamic thought. The speakers in the meeting reiterated that Muslims would never tolerate any attempt to interfere in Muslim Personal Law.

Owaisi also ridiculed the affidavit filed by the central government in the Supreme Court and said that by comparing Muslims with that of Pakistan, government is insulting not just us but the entire country.

Owaisi pointed out that Pakistan was not a functional democracy firstly and other countries mentioned in the affidavit have either monarchies or were no comparison to India.
