P Chidambaram summoned by CBI for questioning in INX Media case

New Delhi:

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has been summoned for questioning on June 6 by the CBI in relation to the INX Media case.

The investigating agency on Thursday was told by a court that Chidambaram can’t be arrested till July 3.

P Chidambaram moved two courts in Delhi on Wednesday for protection from arrest, in relation to the INX media and Aircel Maxis cases.

One of the courts ordered the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that the former union minister cannot be arrested until the next hearing on June 5.

After the respite from the trial court in the Aircel-Maxis case, Mr Chidambaram went to the Delhi High Court in the INX Media case, in which his son Karti Chidambaram is an accused.

The Member of Parliament has been summoned in connection with foreign investment approval in 2007 to INX Media, whose founders were Peter and Indrani Mukherjea.

Karti had been arrested in the case on February 28, but was later released on bail.

The CBI has alleged that there were irregularities in giving INX Media the clearance to get Rs 305 crore in foreign investment. The CBI earlier alleged that Karti Chidambaram had received Rs 10 lakh as bribe for easing the FIPB clearance.
