Pakistani Army crosses LoC, attacks Indian post in J&K

A day after India’s Army chief Bipin Rawat warned Pakistan of another surgical strike if the neighbouring country “does not behave”, a section of Border Action Team (BAT) of Pakistani Army on Tuesday crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and attacked an Indian Army post in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara.

The Indian Army personnel deployed at the post in Keran sector near the LoC retaliated with full force and thwarted the attack by Pakistani troops around 1 pm.

Army sources said that around a section (8 to 12) of  Pakistan’s BAT infiltrated in Kupwara district and attacked the Indian Army post.

The Pakistani intruders fired at Indian posts using light weapons, an army official said.

He added the Pakistani Ranger’s infiltration was supported by heavy mortar shelling by the regular Pakistan Army.

The officer added that no injuries have been reported from both the sides and a cordon operation has been launched in the region.

“The Indian Army jawans retaliated with full forces forcing the intruders to retreat,” added the officer.

Early in the morning Indian Army gunned down a militant trying to infiltrate into India in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An army official said that a weapon has been recovered from the encounter site.
