BJP President Amit Shah, who recently started his new innings as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, made his debut speech in the upper house on Sunday.

During his first speech in the Parliament, Amit Shah attacked Congress for unemployment in the country and highlighted Modi government’s achievements.

“I am not denying the unemployment. But this is after you (Congress) ruled the country for 55 years. Why couldn't Congress find the solution to this,” Shah said.

He also hit back at Congress leader P Chidambaram’s for attacking PM Modi’s remark that selling Pakoda is also a job and said, “I believe it is better to work hard by selling 'Pakodas' rather than be unemployed.”

On Modi’s remark, Chidambaram had said, “a young man who sells pakodas is honourably self-employed, but poor and aspirational. Ask him and he will tell you that he aspires for a regular and secure job. I empathise with him.”

Shah said the Modi was working on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Deendayal Upadhyaya for the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society.

Shah also spoke about Modi government’s Swachh Bharat Mission and said, “Women in rural and even in certain urban areas had to face the humiliation of defecating in open.”

“Modi government took up the task to build toilets for the girls and women those living in Lutyens Zone will not understand the importance of toilets in every house," he said.

Shah Also attacked Congress for terming the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as Gabbar Singh Tax.

“We can show you that all decision on GST matters for states was done taking into account your approval. We can show it to you. But you go out and call it Gabbar Singh Tax,” Shah added.
