Rafale row rocks Parliament, Lok Sabha adjourned till noon, Rajya Sabha till 2 pm.

The winter session of Parliament started on a stormy note on Tuesday as Government and Opposition members shouted engaged in intense sloganeering over the Rafale deal and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Following the ruckus by the parliamentarians, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till noon and Rajya Sabha till 2 pm. The MPs of the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress dueled over the Rafale issue and 1984 anti-Sikh riots case even as Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu asked them to allow peaceful proceedings.

Rajya Sabha proceedings have been disrupted for the last five days on issues like Rafale deal, a dam on Cauvery river and demand of special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The Telugu Desam Party leaders continued their protest inside the premises of Parliament demanding ‘Special Category Status’ for Andhra Pradesh. To grab the eyeballs, TDP MO Naramalli Sivaprasad dressed up as a folk singer during the protest. He had earlier dressed up as a woman and a washerman as well.

The parliamentarians of the AIADMK also held protests in Parliament premises against Karnataka government’s proposed construction of a reservoir-cum-drinking water project at Mekedatu across the Cauvery river. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking to revoke Centre’s permission to Karnataka.

Parliament Schedule Today

Lok Sabha: The National Institute of Design (Amendment) Bill, 2018 will be introduced in the lower house. Apart from this, the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre Bill, 2018 and the Consumer Protection Bill, 2018 will be under consideration. Also, discussions will be held on natural calamities in various parts of the country particularly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Odisha with special reference to cyclones like Gaja, Titli.

Rajya Sabha: The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill 2018, the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2018 will be under consideration and passing in the upper house.
