New Delhi:

Terming partition as 'greatest mistake' in modern India, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday said that there would be no discussion on Jammu and Kashmir if partition had not taken place. Jitendra Singh took a veiled dig at the Nehru-Gandhi family saying, "Partition took place only due to the ambitions of few people." The Union Minister who was speaking at Vishwa Hindi Parishad event in New Delhi added, "The greatest mistake in modern India was the partition. Gandhi ji had said that if a partition takes places, it will happen only over his dead body. He was dissappointed and left for Bengal on the occassion of the first Independece Day", reports news agency ANI.

He also said that the two nation theory failed on the very day Bangladesh was formed. Jitendra Singh further stated, "If partition would not have taken place then the discussions on Jammu and Kashmir as is happening today will not be taking place. There would have neither been Article 370 nor the issue of its abrogation."

Earlier, the Udhampur MP had said that Indian government’s next agenda is to retrieve Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and make it a part of India. He added that it is not only the commitment of BJP or the current dispensation but is a part of the resolution passed in parliament by the Congress government in 1994 under the leadership of the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.
