A number of passenger trains were on Monday delayed for several hours, owing to protests by farmers at Barhiya and Tall stations in Danapur division of East Central Railway.

The trains were detained at different stations of Malda and Asansol divisions of Eastern Railway and in Danapur division of E C Railway, owing to blockade of railway tracks at the two stations, an Eastern Railway officer said.

The agitators blocked railway tracks at Barhiya from 8.31 am and Tall from 9.55 am. The protests at Barhiya was withdrawn at 1.35 pm and Tall at 2.40 pm, he said.

The 12273 up Howrah-New Delhi Duronto Express, 12304 downn Poorva Express, 13119 up SealdahDelhi Express, 14055 up Brahmaputra Mail, 13483 up Farakka Express, 22948 Bhagalpur Surat Express and 12367 up Vikramsila Express are among the mail and express trains detained en route, due to the agitation, the officer said.

The 13419 up Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur Jansewa Express scheduled to leave Bhagalpur at 14.05 pm has been cancelled, he added.
