A 15-member delegation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, led by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday stated that one could apply passport from post office very soon.
Tharoor along with the parliamentary committee members visited the Amritsar Passport office wherein he had discussions with passport office officials and also interacted with the passport seekers.
“There was a need to upgrade all post offices in the country with latest infrastructure since there was vast availability of post offices...one can find it in every nook and corner of the country, even in remote villages,” Tharoor said while interacting with the media.

Passports could be applied from post offices shortly, the senior Congress leader said. He further added, there are 86 post offices that have already started working in this regard.
Tharoor-led delegation, which included eight MPs paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple in Punjab. They also paid tributes to the martyrs at the Jallianwala Bagh.
The delegation also held a meeting with the Custom and BSF officials at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Attari/Wagah border wherein they gathered the “first hand information with regard to the required infrastructure at ICP, import/export activities with Pakistan and problems faced by the officials.”
Not only this, they also witnessed the evening beating retreat ceremony at Wagah border.
