Veteran actor Om Puri died on Friday after suffering heart attack. He was 66 years of age. 

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoles the passing away of actor Om Puri and recalls his long career in theatre and films.

Om Puri has appeared in mainstream commercial Pakistani, Indian, British, and Hollywood, Independent films and art films.

He was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India. His most popular movies were Hera Pheri, Don 2, Delhi - 6, OMG - Oh my God!, Kurbaan, Dabangg.

He was critically acclaimed for his role in Aakrosh in 1980, a film in which he spoke only during flash-back sequences. His role of Jimmy's manager in Disco Dancer (1982). 

He played the role of police inspector in Ardh Satya (1982), where he revolts against lifelong social, cultural and political persecution and for which he got the National Film Award for Best Actor.

In 1999, Puri acted in a Kannada movie A.K. 47 as a strict police officer which became a big hit. Om Puri’s last movie was a Pakistani film 'Actor-in-law'.
