Having “promoted” corruption when in power, Congress is now opposing every step being taken by the NDA government towards making the country developed and strong, Telangana BJP chief K Laxman alleged on Friday.
The country became weak due to corruption, black money and terrorism under the impact of counterfeit notes during the rule of Congress at the Centre. The Narendra Modi government’s aim is to get rid of the scourges from the country, he said.
Alleging that Congress “promoted” corruption during its stint in power and is now opposing every measure being taken by the BJP-led government to make India strong and developed, he said people, who have appreciated the demonetisation drive, will teach a lesson to the party.
Speaking at an event where Bharat Goud, the new chief of state BJP’s Yuva Morcha, took charge, Laxman asked the party’s youth to take up awareness programmes on cashless economy as a “social movement”.
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy said a false campaign is on over consumption of gold and the NDA government has not brought any new law on the issue.
Asserting that women need not worry on keeping gold at homes, Reddy said only those having the yellow metal purchased through illegal means will have a problem.
“No fresh restrictions have been imposed. Whatever old restrictions were there, they are continuing,” he said, adding the demonetisation drive will allow the poor and the middle classes get substantial bank loans.
