The Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praised Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for organising Kargil Vijay Diwas inside its campus in New Delhi on Sunday.
Pradhan said, “It is a proud day for every citizen of the country.”
The University organised a programme on the occasion of 18th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, to commemorate Kargil War victory and to pay homage to the martyrs.
The Petroleum Minister said, "JNU has set an example in the country for its respect for the Indian Army."
Pradhan also congratulated the JNU vice chancellor for organising Kargil Vijay Diwas in the university.
More than 2000 students including ABVP members along with General (Retired) V.K. Singh and Mentor of Veterans India, Major General G.D. Bakshi and cricketer Gautam Gambhir carrying a 2,200-feet long Tricolour marched from JNU main gate till with Convention Centre.
More than 23 families of martyrs too participated in the event.
JNU Vice Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar requested the union minister to arrange an old Army tank for displaying it in the campus.
VK Singh said, "Indian Army firmly believes in protecting the sanctity of Indian Independence and sovereignty."
