PM Modi congratulates PTI chief Imran Khan, hopes democracy will take deeper roots in Pakistan

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan and congratulated him after his party emerged as the largest political party in the National Assembly of Pakistan in the recent elections.

PM Modi in his conversation with the PTI chief, expressed hope that democracy will take deeper roots in Pakistan, according to an official statement.

Modi also reiterated his vision of peace and development in the entire neighbourhood.

Khan, who will take oath as prime minister of Pakistan on August 11, had earlier said he would like to sit across the table with his Indian counterpart to resolve the Kashmir issue.

“We have to resolve Kashmir issue by sitting across the table, If India’s leadership is willing then the both of us can solve this issue through dialogue. It will be good for the subcontinent also,” the PTI said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.
