New Delhi :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today had to take to Twitter to quell strong reaction against his comments on Gau Rakshak Community. Tweeting late in the night, PM Modi said that 'there is absolutely no need for anyone to take the law in his or her hands & disturb the spirit of harmony & togetherness'.

Modi's tweet comes after irked cow vigilantes lashed out at Prime Minister for calling 80 per cent of them hooligans and anti-social in his 'Townhall' address today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being lampooned by the ‘Gau Rakshak’ community on Twitter.

In his first comments on the violence against Dalits by cow vigilantes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today strongly rebuked them, saying most of them are “anti-social” elements who are running “shops” in the name of cow protection which makes him “angry”.

He asked state governments to prepare “dossiers” on the so-called cow protectors as 80 per cent of them do illegal activities at night and become cow protectors in the day, asserting that running such help groups does not mean harassing others.

Tweeting under the trending topic #गर्व_से_कहो_गौरक्षक_है (Proud to be cow vigilante), several people are calling PM out for his statement against the community.

The strong reactions from his usual followers forced the Prime Minister to tweet his repsonse late in the night.
