The hand-woven silk portrait of the President of China has been created by weavers of Coimbatore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday gifted a hand-woven silk portrait to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The hand-woven silk portrait of the President of China has been created by weavers of Sri Ramalinga Sowdambigai Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society in Sirumugaipudur in Coimbatore. President Xi's face has been woven in gold with floral decorations on a red background. The portrait was made by using pure mulberry silk and gold threads. A 240 Hooks Electronic Jacquard helped encode the portrait pattern into the design punch cards that created the thread patterns used by the weavers, reports ANI.

Earlier on Friday, PM Modi gifted Nachiarkoil, a branched Annam lamp and a Thanjavur painting of dancing Saraswathi to Xi on the first day of the informal summit between the two leaders at Mamallapuram near Tamil Nadu.

PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday held their second round of one-on-one informal talks today. This comes after the two leaders held nearly two-and-a-half hours of ‘open and cordial’ talks at the magnificent Shore temple complex of Mahabalipuram. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar described the engagement between Modi and Xi on the first day of the Informal summit as "highly productive".

The Chinese president arrived in Chennai on Friday afternoon and recieved a grand red-carpet welcome by the Tamil Nadu government. He then headed to Mahabalipuram for the summit with Modi. In the late afternoon, Modi and Xi sipped coconut water and engaged in casual interaction in a serene setting in the backdrop of 7th century rock-cut chariots of Pancha Ratha overlooking the Bay of Bengal.
