Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday indicated to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is to be noted that this was the first time when PM Modi hinted of seeking a third term.

While replying on the Motion of the Thanks to the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi asserted that he will come up with new development before people to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, PM Modi said that the grand-old-party cannot see beyond one family and it has been flying so high that it is disconnected from the roots.

In his hour-long reply, the Prime Minister even noted that the Congress members did not even mention former PM Manmohan Singh’s work in their speeches in Lok Sabha during the two-day debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.

The Prime Minister took a jibe at the opposition parties who have not joined the Aayushman Scheme. He asked the MPs to encourage people to join the scheme. "The need of the hour is to strengthen Ayushman Bharat. We want our poor to get the best quality and affordable medical treatment," he said.

On incidents of rising violence in the country, PM Modi said, "Violence whether in Jharkhand, West Bengal or Kerala should be dealt with equally." He further expressed concern over rising water crisis in the country. The Prime Minister also stated that serious steps should be taken to deal with the situation. “Everyone should work towards conserving water," the PM added.

Prime Minister Modi noted that the NDA may not have the majority in the Rajya Saba, but verdict of the people should not be throttled in the House.

This was PM Modi’s first speech in Parliament after his re-election last month. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 303 seats the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 353 seats. The Congress party won 52 seats, and the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance won 91. Other parties and their alliances won 98 seats.
