Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Congress and said that it made the 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused a CM. PM Modi was taking a dig at newly appointed Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath. He also raised the issue of Kartarpur corridor while addressing a rally in Punjab's Gurdaspur.Â

In his first visit to Gurdaspur after the demise of actor Vinod Khanna, PM Modi said that the noted actor wanted to see an advanced Gurdaspur. "We have to fulfil his dream together. The Bharatiya Janata Party and Akali Dal are constantly working for the welfare of the people."Â Â

Targeting the Congress party, PM Modi said people of Punjab should be alert of those who have a history of killing thousands of Sikhs and are now rewarding the accused with the CM's post. "Congress is rewarding people, who are involved in riots, with chief minister's post. The country should be alert of such people," PM Modi said.

He also raised the issue of Kartarpur corridor and said that the NDA government took a historic decision of making it possible. "Just for their politics, the Congress leaders gave a chance to Pakistan, surprising that these Congress leaders did not even pay heed to their Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh," he said while taking a dig at Congress leader Navjot Sidhu over his visit to Pakistan.Â
Talking about the initiatives taken by his government, PM Modi said 2.5 lakh youths have been trained under the Skill India Mission." With the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme, the population of daughters has increased in several Punjab districts," he added.Â

Earlier, PM Modi addressed 106th Indian Science Congress in Jalandhar where he added 'Jai Anusandhan' to the slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' given by the late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, hailing the power of research to propel the nation into the top league. "Today's new slogan is 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Anusandhan'. I would like to add 'Jai Anusandhan' to it," he said. Â
