Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invoked Pak threat to seek votes for Shrimoni Akali Dal and BJP alliance in Punjab at a political rally in Kotkapura near Bathinda.

This is a border state and Pakistan is eagerly awaiting a chance to use the land of Punjab to destroy India. If non-serious (dheeli-dhaali) government comes, government of outsiders is formed and government of those who lead luxurious lifestyle comes, then it is not that only the people of Punjab who will suffer, but the entire nation will have to face crisis,” he said.

Hitting at Congress and AAP for speaking ill of Prakash Singh Badal, Modi paralleled the senior Punjab leader to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said that two leaders have never spoken bad about anyone.

“Few people are speaking wrong about Badal Sahab, this is not acceptable for such a tall leader. Those who are not honest, we cannot expect them to speak well about Badal Sahab; How can they think of welfare of people in Punjab?” PM Modi said.

He added, “Congress labelled youth of state as terrorists. Few others called them drug addicts. How can that be accepted?”

Elections to 117 assembly seats in Punjab take place on February 4 with the main contest being among the Akali Dal-BJP combine, which has been in power in Punjab since 2007, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

PM Modi dwelt at length on the new schemes and policies introduced by his government at the Centre for the benefit of farmers, including micro-irrigation, crop insurance from natural calamities, modernizing agriculture through technology and others.

Modi also assured that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will fully investigate the incidents of the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and bring the culprits to book.
