Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated National Legislators Conference in the Central Hall of the Parliament in Delhi.
Themed on ''We For Development', the conference will provide a platform for lawmakers to learn from each other’s success stories.
Addressing the conference, PM Modi told lawmakers that “the very fact that you are sitting where once Pandit Nehru, Ambedkar and Sardar Patel sat brings in a sense of purity in itself.”
Speaking at the event, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said, “We have to make sure that development reaches the last man standing in line.”
Here are the top quotes from PM Modi’s speech:
# “A spirit of competitive and cooperative federalism is very good for the country.”
# “In every state, there are a few districts where development parameters are strong. We can learn from them and work on weaker districts.”
# Public participation always helps. Wherever officials have worked with people and involved them with the development process, the results are transformative.
# “The word 'backward' must not be used for any district - we need to make an atmosphere of 'forward' in the country.”
# “We need to see that one specific thing which is hampering the development of a district and address the issue.”
# “We have the manpower, we have the skills and resources. We need to work in mission mode and bring about positive change. Our aim is social justice.”
