New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with ASHA and Anganwadi workers and health beneficiaries via video conferencing on Tuesday. The initiative will further strengthen the objectives of Poshan Abhiyaan, the National Nutrition Mission, set up by the Government last November. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and Anganwadi workers and health beneficiaries through video conferencing and said that the children and youth are key factors behind a strong country and its progress.

“ASHA and Anganwadi workers and health beneficiaries are playing role of nation builders. One cannot build a strong building on a weak foundation, similarly, if the children of the country are weak the progress of the country will also slow down,” said PM Modi.

“Initially, an ASHA worker used to visit a baby 6 times in 42 days after his/her birth, now we have increased that time to 15 months. ASHA worker will visit the baby for 11 times in these 15 months,” the prime minister said.

Modi emphasised on three pillars behind the welfare of women and children, first being healthy nutrition, second being proper vaccination and third sanitation. The BJP stalwart also said that these aspects are being worked upon through several programmes.

“The first 1000 days in a child’s life are very important. The nourishment during this period determines his/her health and mental abilities.’Asha’ workers now need to visit a home 11 times in 15 months after every new birth. I am confident, your dedication will help produce bright citizens, Modi said.

The BJP leader stated how the BJP came up with Mission Indradhanush in 2014 to give proper vaccination to the infants in remote areas and praised the workers in working hard to complete its objectives.

“I would also like to thank the thousands of millions of doctors in the country, who are examining pregnant women without any fees.I would like to express my gratitude towards those doctors who are treating pregnant women without taking any fees,” he said.

PM Modi said that the early marriage of women is also a major concern and pointed out the dangers of pregnancy at a young age.

Narendra Modi’s interaction session with the health workers and beneficiaries has been held as a part of ‘poshan-maah’ which is being celebrated on the month of September across the country to highlight the importance of nutrition.
