PM Modi on first China visit post Doklam standoff for talks with Xi at Wuhan Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday left for China to attend an Informal Summit. The summit will be hosted by Chinese President Xi Jingping in Wuhan City on April 27 and 28.

This is Modi's first visit to China since the Doklam standoff and the first time since 1954 that the leaders of both the countries will have an informal discussion.

“We will make sure that the informal summit (between PM Modi and Chinese President Jinping on April 27-28) will be a complete success and a milestone in China-India relations,” said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday at a joint press conference alongside Sushma Swaraj in Beijing. 

The summit is being regarded as a move by both the countries to get their relation back on track following the Doklam stand-off last year, where the army from both the nations were engaged in a nose-to-nose standoff near Sikkim border.

The summit comes ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit to be held in China's Qingdao city in June.

No joint press conference will be held during Prime Minister Modi’s two-day visit to China, official sources said.
