On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s website released an itinerary of the events that he will attend to mark the launch of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Father of the Nation. The website said, “Events related to sanitation and renewable energy shall be the focus of the Prime Minister’s engagements on Gandhi Jayanti.” The Prime Minister began his day by paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, following which he visited Vijay Ghat to pay homage to former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.

PM Modi attended the closing ceremony of the four-day international conference, Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC) at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. At the event PM Modi, accompanied by Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, launched commemorative postage stamps on Mahatma Gandhi, and a medley CD based on Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite hymn – “Vaishnav Jan” The Swachh Bharat Awards were also distributed on this occasion.
