Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed his greetings to all personnel of the Indian Navy and their families on Navy Day.
This year will mark the 45th anniversary of the Navy Day in India.

Indian Navy Chief Sunil Lanba along with Chief of Army Chief Dalbir Singh Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha paid homage at the war memorial 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' in New Delhi.

On Navy Day, Admiral Sunil Lanba told a media house, I assure the nation that Navy is full combat-ready and prepared to protect our maritime interest in Indian Ocean.
According to the officials, the Easter Naval Command will give an operational demonstration of naval ships and aircraft to showcase the capability and versatility of Naval ships in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh today. The sources say that at least 24 ships and 17 naval aircraft are expected to participate in in 2016 Navy Day demonstration.
During the 1971 India- Pakistan war, the Indian Navy played a significant role in the bombing of Karachi harbour. The operation was named Operation Trident and is was launched on 4th December.
