New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day Gujarat visit, launched various SAUNI projects and inaugurated Guru Gobind Singh Hospital at Jamnagar on Monday. Addressing a gathering during the launch event, the prime minister said he ended the ‘Tanker Raj’ in Gujarat and solved water shortage issue in the state which, he said is prone to drought.

"For many years, there was an issue of water shortage in Gujarat. This state has been drought prone. I was certain that I can’t allow 'Tanker Raj' to carry on in Gujarat. We worked to improve water scarcity, particularly in the areas where water shortage was more,” the prime minister during the rally.

Modi said that whenever there was any problem, a determination to solve that problem was also there. He said that despite negligence by the previous governments, the Sardar Sarovar Dam project was completed which brought much-needed relief to the people of the state.

"While there was a problem, there was also a determination to solve this problem. The Sardar Sarovar Dam has brought much relief to the people of Gujarat. This project was completed despite neglect from earlier state governments and adversities from various quarters," Modi said.

Speaking about the hospital launch, the prime minister said that there has been a revolution in the health sector of the state in the last few years and hospitals with modern facilities were launched across the state.

"Gujarat has witnessed a revolution in the health sector in the last many years. Hospitals with modern facilities are coming up across the state. This benefits the poor," he said.

He said that his government's Ayushman Bharat scheme is one of the world's biggest healthcare programmes which ensures affordable and quality education for the poor. "In Ayushman Bharat, India is home to one of the biggest healthcare programmes in the world. The coming of this initiative ensures top quality and affordable healthcare for the poor," he added.
