CAA Protests: Death Count Rises To 18, Internet Services Suspended In 25 Districts Of Uttar Pradesh

The death count in violence related to protests against Citizenship Amendment Act in Uttar Pradesh has climbed to 18, officials said on Sunday. According to reports, all the deaths were caused by bullets fired by protestors. Over 260 policemen were also injured, of whom 57 received gunshot wounds in Kanpur, IG (Law and Order) Praveen Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI. In Muzaffarnagar, 25 policemen were injured in stone-pelting on Friday and SP City got pellet injury when someone in the crowd used an illegal firearm, SP Abhishek Yadav said. Read here…

Days After Yogi Adityanath's Stern Warning, UP Govt Seals Properties Of Alleged Violent Protesters

Days after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a stern warning to anti-Citizenship Act protesters indulging in violence, the administration in several districts of the state started proceedings by sealing properties of the accused. On Thursday, Adityanath had said, “In a democracy, you can’t indulge in violence in the name of protest. We will take strict action against such elements. PM Modi's Rally In Ramlila Maidan: Snipers Stationed, CCTV On All Routes Leading To Venue

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally on Sunday at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, which is a little over a kilometre away from Old Delhi's Daryaganj that was hit by violence on Friday during the protest against the amended Citizenship Act. According to sources, senior officials remained in huddle till 5 am on Saturday to discuss the security arrangements. In the meeting, among other things, it was decided that social media should be monitored to stop rumour-mongering, especially in the wake of ongoing protests against the contentious legislation. Citizenship Act: Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Sent To Jail For 14 Days Over Daryaganj Violence

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, arrested in connection with Daryaganj violence after protests at the Jama Masjid, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Saturday. Azad was taken to Tihar jail after the Tis Hazari Court denied his bail plea. Aazad, who was arrested earlier in the day, sought bail from the court on the ground that there is no evidence that he instigated the Jama Masjid crowd to go to Delhi Gate where the protesters had turned violent. The police opposed his bail plea on the ground that he may threaten witnesses and his judicial remand is necessary for the sake of law and order. Read here…
